Report on Social Responsibility and Sustainability* (pdf)
Beyond the simple adoption of regulations issued by multinational and national agencies AviancaTaca has launched an action plan enabling it to contribute effectively to the wellbeing of employees, customers, shareholders, investors and the community through concrete, measurable strategies, bringing longterm sustainability to the business. To do this our work encompasses three key areas: social, environmental and economic.
Social responsibility
We ensure decent working conditions for all Company employees, through ongoing training, implementation of fair employment policies, access to wellbeing programs and health benefits.
We seek to extend the benefits of our business to sectors of the community that require air transport with a view to covering basic health needs, giving support to national emergencies and education among others.
Environmental responsibility
The environmental goal is to contribute to the rational use of natural resources on land and air, by incorporating environmentally-friendly technology (fleet renewal), the adoption of clean production mechanisms, the use of biodegradable items for onboard service and proper waste processing.
Additionally, we work to implement the best operating practices to reduce fuel consumption on our flights, optimizing routes and shortening distances, among other actions.
Economic sustainability
Counting on a group of international shareholders and investors makes AviancaTaca a solid and reliable company in view of the different interest groups intimately involved in its continuing success.
We know that the greatest value (in terms of positioning, brand recall and value) is generated by large corporations who apply codes of ethics and transparency to their business. AviancaTaca seeks to achieve its business objectives by following its internal guidelines.
Miles Bank
AviancaTaca has merged its "Banco de Millas" (Avianca) and "Millas para los míos" (Taca) donation programs. Thanks to the generosity of passengers we have a unique miles deposit that we can redeem to transport people of limited economic means who require medical care in cities on the network.
Biofuel
In compliance with its environmental policy and with the aim of promoting a greener aviation industry, Avianca-TACA joined the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group, SAFUG, thereby advancing the implementation of its environmental management program, the preservation of natural resources and reduction of CO2 emissions.
In compliance with its entry to SAFUG, Avianca-TACA holds true to the commitments made by the industry to reduce the average CO2 emissions by 1.5 percent annually until 2020 when it will achieve carbon neutrality, reducing the net CO2 emissions by 50 percent in 2050 compared to the 2005 levels.
AviancaTaca Solidarity
In order to support the strategies implemented by the national government to respond to the consequences of the worst winter on record AviancaTaca, its shareholders, directors and employees joined together with financial contributions, donations in kind and helping with the air transportation of victims and volunteers, focused towards alleviating the suffering of the more than two million Colombians affected. In total, we gave the “Colombia Humanitaria” program an institutional contribution of COP1,000 million and COP120 million was raised from employees in Colombia and abroad.
